I am not good at talking about myself which is hard in the world of social media but I will give this go! My biggest accomplishment in this world is being a mother. I have the honor of being a boy mom to two amazing little guys with the biggest hearts I have ever seen.I am a huge nerd. Birth nerd of course but also a nerd in the sense that I would live in a library. In my spare time, I am a cosplayer. I love Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Outlander, Doctor Who, Most musicals make my heart smile. (The list goes on and on) Fall is my favorite season. Sunflowers are my favorite flowers. I am a Birth & Postpartum doula. I am a Phase 3 Student Midwife at Breath Of Life Midwifery in Roanoke, Va. I am a Birth, Maternity & Newborn Photographer. I am a Wedding Officiant and Notary Public. I was called into birth work starting out with photography. I was also so fascinated with how strong birthing bodies were. I suffered several miscarriages before becoming pregnant with my first son. My pregnancy was very difficult and I was not heard. It was believed I felt pain differently than others for a number of reasons. I had hyperemesis gravida and was told that I was overreacting. I went through two doctors in this practice before one actually heard me and helped me properly. Resulting in discovering late that I had gestational diabetes with sugars that were 457 which landed a hospital stay. In my second pregnancy, I was better prepared but my doctor was out for part of my pregnancy due to her own. I endured several things throughout the pregnancy and caring for a toddler that resulted in extreme birth trauma. I had postpartum depression and anxiety and I know firsthand how important it is for someone to care for and see you after having a baby. Especially if you have a toddler as well. I discovered the existence of Midwives and Doulas after that. I was drawn to a life of helping women through delicate times but also wanting to be able to spot the signs and give information to help. Be the person who they know is looking out for them. Give them resources for counselors and time to take a breath. I don’t know what I would have done without my best friend coming over and helping so I could take a nap. Cook a meal or allow me to shower. She was my saving grace in a world where I felt invisible except for the love of my kids. Postpartum is a time to be supported. Your village may just be one person but if that village is me i can promise I will be the best village I can be for you in our time together. No matter how you birth. Hospital, Birth Center, Home Birth you deserve to be heard and respected.
