Queer toolkit by NSPIRG

Navigating the world of pronouns can be a hard learning curve. Imagining being the person/ person(s) going through figuring that out themselves. This is no different in the birthing community and inclusive language is very important. This does not pull away from the “Natural” born way of thinking but as the world evolves so must we. Not every birthing person is female. I believe that the journey of birth is something beautiful. I was not drawn to birth by accident. There is nothing like seeing a birthing person come into their own. I align my thought process with whatever the client wants. If the client is a woman with she/her pronouns I gladly and proudly say “ You are a goddess” “You got this momma” "Listen to your body” and with someone with other pronouns I let them lead the way. Even though I am part of the queer community doesn’t mean I know every single thing for the person(s) or community. That is why having an open and honest conversation is so important. Help with research and resources. Help figure out what phrases and affirmations are important to them. I have had someone who wanted Harry potter affirmations. It all depends on the birthing person. A fellow Student midwife and doula who is also part of the community showed me a wonderful toolkit by NSPIRG.

Here is their website: https://www.nspirg.ca/

https://linktr.ee/nspirg the toolkit is free for download in color and black & white and will be one of my favorite resources as an inclusive birth worker.
